Movie Reviews
After a really long time, a sneak peek into the movies that I have watched and a few comments which aim to help all the movie lovers out there like me:
Start trek – If you haven’t watched this movie you are a loser, as this is one of the best prequels ever made, the cast was perfect and it entirely transforms you into a world filled with fun even if you are not a trekkie like me, so you better go watch it. I would give a 9/10 for this movie.
XMEN Origins: Wolverine – This is not bad at all if you have watched the previous xmen movies, then you would know that Hugh Jackman was trying hard to find out about his past and how he became Mr. Volverine. For all the comic book fans and those who are intrigued to know the mystery behind the metal skeleton and claws then this tells you why. Now for a rating, being a generous movie lover it would be a 7/10.
Angels and Demons – Robert Langdon as usual is a genius in symbols and this time it is not about the Holy Grail but it is about the Vatican. Just like we all know, movies are not as good as the books, but the makers have made a genuine attempt to include as much facts as they can from the book. But some of the facts have been modified to their advantage, and to uncover the real truth that Dan brown wanted to reveal, get the book and start reading (the last 3 or 4 chapters would do). Right after watching the movie, I rated this as 7/10 but after reading the last chapters of the book again, I reevaluated and maybe a 6/10 is all I would give to the movie.

Just as the quote goes, “Of all of our inventions for mass communication, pictures still speak the most universally understood language.” Watched a bunch of movies last week which include:
Night at the museum – A Ben Stiller movie seemed a little interesting towards the point where it provides glimpses of historic figures who reigned a couple of decades ago and their vulnerabilities in a pretty comic way. The movie seemed to be colorful and pretty eventful but the storyline is just mediocre with a divorced father finding his destiny while trying to impress his son. The movie would probably inspire you to visit a museum, and this maybe a shot for kids who are amused by animated movies, nothing more to be expected.
This movie is the best western movie and a must watch if you are a movie lover, the three characters which portray the good (Clint Eastwood), the bad (Lee Van Cleef) and the ugly (Eli Wallach) were superb. An outstanding performance by Clint Eastwood and the light touch of comedy by Eli Wallach was undoubtedly a little over the top. Though “The Good the bad and the Ugly” seemed initially to be somewhat like an art picture with fewer dialogues, violence and lengthy, it still seemed to be worth it. The movie portrays the fight between the Yankees and the Confederates along with the main storyline while keeping the story funny, simple and less complicated like the westerners.
A so called thriller movie “The Hitman,” based on the extremely popular game series that revolve around the bar coded bald Agent 47 who is an assassin with a flawless record and the secret organization that extends his serves to the wealth and elite, by not revealing the client details. The game was developed by IO Interactive, a division of Eidos Interactive, for PC and PlayStation 2. The movie is not anything special, especially if you have played the game and you may think that it is a little convoluted, predictable and Timothy Olyphant seems like a young genetically engineered boy send to do a man’s job, with a love interest by his side.

Movies are so entertaining that it transforms your soul into a totally mesmerizing realm where you would love to stay forever. All the different types of movies that we are blessed to watch seem to be aimed towards the tastes of different sections of society – kids, teens, adults, elders etc. Any movie that you take would be tied to our lives with some unseen thread which binds you to it, and that could be a delicate human emotion or a circumstance that you have experienced, heard or known from others and thus will have a tremendous influence over the viewers which in most cases would be subtle to realize in the first instance. I feel that movies should be one of the key tools used for social marketing which aims to bring about any positive social behavioral change, because everyone likes to watch movies irrespective of age, caste, creed, color or the section of society they hail from.
The movie industry has been far from successful in bringing out a bunch of movies every week to satisfy the desires of the general public. But the question is have they been successful enough to provide a handful of the so called best movies from a viewer perspective, providing good content in terms of the storyline, is yet to be answered. Last week we watched around 8 movies which include – Forgiven, Underworld, Underworld – Evolution, Underworld – Rise of the Lycans, Gone in 60 seconds, Interview with the Vampire, The Pink Panther 2. Out of these, forgiven seemed good with the western environment though the concept of the hero punishing people who have sinned has been a common plot in many movies. But again it touches the lives of a lot of poor people who strive hard to earn a living – from the annoying pimp to the whore and even the cow boys who want the reward for punishing the criminals.
In Underworld the fight between the so called Vampires and Werewolves is not unknown to all. But the rise of the Lycans seemed pretty impressive as it gave a preface that the seeds of hatred which undermined peace was an effect of selfless love that existed between two prime characters in the movie. Again, the Vampire Werewolf hybrids who are more powerful than each group taken separately/together seemed to the future to continue the bloodlines.
The Pink Panther seemed hilarious to me and I could not stop myself from laughing at Steve Martin’s “hamburger” comedy. The Pink Panther 2 was an average comedy movie, but the ending was horrible as the actors try to deduce how the theft would have happened. The deduction of the crime was so quick that it seemed difficult to get the entire picture. But this made me feel that the Director would have deliberately made the conversation faster so it would leave the viewer confused whether they missed any part, but in real it wasn’t any kind of a rare complex deduction.
Gone in 60 seconds from the warehouse, showroom, houses, all the expensive cars and the infinite ways by which car thieves bypass the alarm system seemed amusing. The movie spins around the characters, does not go in-depth into the lives of these characters but the agenda for the theft which is the central plot seemed very clear. Movie does not keep the viewers thoughts lingering for even 60 seconds after the movie, but just a feast for the eyes while watching it.
Interview with the Vampire was the worst movie I have ever seen. The acting was less than mediocre or below average and I definitely expected much more from Tom Cruise. Though the concept of a Vampires’ interview seemed unnatural, the movie did not meet the expected standards, with 2 famous actors dressed up running around, with one drinking human blood and another drinking rats/pigeons/poodle blood. The storyline and acting seemed pathetic except for Kirsten Dunst, the little Vampire girl acted pretty well for her age.
